DOWN NEWS was set up in 2009 by Jim Masson who has almost 20 years experience in the media industry as photographer, columnist and editor.

It is a hyperlocal blog which covers news and sport items in and around County Down. Down News is non-political ie it respects all political perspectives and does not strive to pursue any one strand of political opinion.

As a modern media production, it is keen to promote fairness and equality in the handling of its stories and articles and in turn, there is an expectation that Down News too will be treated equally and with respect. It encourages positive reader engagement and is active on social media platforms.

In 2011, Down News won the Best Use of Social Media award on the legacy Down District Council, and it has continued to push the boundaries and set standards in hyperlocals in Northern Ireland.

Down News is a platform where local businesses can advertise their products and services at a very competitive rate and Jim is keen to talk to prospective advertisers.
